Californians Eligible for up to 21 Tuition-Free College Credits

Students can earn up to 21 transferable, tuition-free college credits under a new partnership between the non-profit Saylor Academy and Brandman University. As part of this program, students can take up to 21 credit hours through Saylor’s self-paced, web-based, faculty-built courses and transfer these specially designated courses in Business Administration and Computer Science to Brandman. If a new student passes all 21 credits and transfers them to one of the partner colleges, the savings could add up to several thousands of dollars. Even just completing a few of these courses can give students a big jump on completing a degree. “Getting a jump on college credit puts students at a great advantage, and not just financially. Studies show that students are more likely to persist to completion if they arrive at school having already earned some credits elsewhere,” explained Jeff Davidson, vice president, Saylor Academy. “Tuition-free courses can also be particularly appealing to those looking to return to complete a degree.” This program will enable more people—from recent grads to those who never finished college—to fast-track their future using Saylor’s flexible, on-demand education portal. According to the Lumina Foundation, over 4,000,000 Californians have "some college" but no degree. To get credit for the designated courses outlined in the Brandman partnership, students participate in the self-paced classes and then take a proctored exam. The only cost associated with these courses and exams is a nominal fee of $25 payable to the proctoring company. After passing the Saylor Academy course and exam, students then request Saylor to submit a transcript to Saylor’s partner schools. Students interested in exploring this partnership, should visit http://www.saylor.org/brandman-university/. Saylor Academy is funded by the Constitution Foundation a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Michael Saylor, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of business intelligence company MicroStrategy Inc. Saylor Academy’s tuition-free courses are created by credentialed educators and through partnerships with colleges, universities, and businesses make truly affordable credentials a reality. Brandman University is a private, nonprofit institution accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission. As part of the Chapman University System, Brandman blends a legacy of academic excellence with innovative curriculum and strong support services designed for students with busy schedules.
