CHP Seeks Driver Who Fled Scene of Fatal Collision in Oakland

Anyone with information is being asked to call an anonymous tip line at 1-800-TELL-CHP.

The California Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in finding the driver of a silver 2002 BMW 745i who officers said fled the scene of a fatal collision on Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland this morning. The crash was reported at 1:33 a.m. on westbound Interstate Highway 580 at Lakeshore Avenue.

The incident closed westbound lanes for several hours, but all lanes have since been opened, according to the CHP. The CHP is describing the driver as an adult black man wearing jeans, sneakers, a parka and possibly a baseball cap.

The man was carrying a briefcase and a bag and fled on foot toward the Trader Joe’s grocery store on Lakeshore Avenue in Oakland, according to the CHP.
