Kenyin McGee, 27, is accused of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion after he allegedly met a 17-year-old girl online.

OAKLAND, CA — An Oakland man was federally indicted this week for allegedly sex trafficking an underage girl and other crimes, the U.S. Department of Justice said Thursday.

Kenyin McGee, 27, is accused of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion after he allegedly met a 17-year-old girl online and bought her a bus ticket to Oakland.

"Afterward, McGee had sex with the victim, telling her he wanted to test 'the product,' even though he acknowledged she was a minor," prosecutors allege.

McGee also allegedly drove the victim to San Francisco and to International Boulevard in Oakland, an area known for commercial sex activity, and instructed her to have sex with men for money.

When the victim followed his instructions, McGee seized her earnings and kept all the proceeds of her commercial sex acts for himself, prosecutors allege.

McGee is also accused of sending the victim threatening text messages. In several of the messages, McGee allegedly threatened to "shoot" or "kill" her.

The alleged victim escaped when a San Francisco Police Department officer came in contact with her on the street and connected her with help.

If convicted, McGee faces a maximum statutory penalty of life in federal prison and mandatory minimum penalties of 15 years in prison for sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and 10 years in prison for sex trafficking of a minor.
