Good Samaritan Helps Pull Woman Out of Car That Flipped onto its Side in Alameda

Alameda police said a possibly drunk driver was involved in the crash.

A good Samaritan stopped to help a woman who was trapped inside a vehicle in Alameda Sunday evening after a possible drunk driver rear-ended her car, flipping it onto its side, Alameda police said. Lt. Ron Simmons said officers responded at 6:13 p.m. to a report of an overturned vehicle just outside of the Webster Street Tube, which connects Alameda and Oakland.

Simmons said a possibly drunk driver rear-ended a car that was in the left lane and exiting the tube. The car pushed the victim’s car onto its driver’s side, causing it to slide, Simmons said. The driver was trapped against the road, but Simmons said a good Samaritan, who was traveling behind the involved vehicles, stopped and helped her get out of the car.

Simmons said the woman suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Police are evaluating the driver who rear-ended the woman’s car and investigating whether to file criminal charges, Simmons said. A third car sustained minor damage in the collision and may have sideswiped one of the two involved vehicles, Simmons said. CHP officers issued a Sig-alert at 6:46 p.m. and Simmons said the roadway cleared at 7:49 p.m.
