1. Free Alameda Water Shuttle Could Return Friday After Experiencing Engine Issues (patch.com) — Alameda riders who depend on the free Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle may see service resume as soon as Friday after multiple engine failures sidelined the Woodstock last week. City officials say new engines are en route, testing will follow, and in the meantime they urge travelers to use the SF Bay Ferry's Alameda Short Hop or AC Transit Line 96 to reach and leave the island. 
2. Weekend Shooting at South Shore TJ Maxx (alamedapost.com) — A weekend robbery attempt in the South Shore Center parking lot ended with a Good Samaritan shot in the leg near the TJ Maxx, according to Alameda Police. Officers say the victim resisted a robbery, a bystander intervened, and a single gunshot injured the helper, who is recovering from non-life-threatening wounds. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and investigators, along with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, are continuing to review the case.
3. APD: Back to School Safety, Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest (alamedapost.com) — As Alameda students return to class, APD is stepping up patrols around island school zones and sharing safety tips after spotting risky driving, biking, and scootering behaviors in the first days back. Officers also made a drug-related arrest at Haight Avenue and Webster Street after a traffic stop uncovered suspected narcotics, cash, and other evidence, underscoring how routine enforcement can reveal broader crimes.
4. One California County Is Considering a Whopping $30 Minimum Wage Bay Area Telegraph (bayareatelegraph.com) — Alameda County is weighing a "Living Wage for All" initiative that could eventually raise minimum pay to $30 an hour in unincorporated areas and on county property, though not automatically in cities like Alameda. Supervisors have ordered a study, delaying a public vote until at least 2028 while officials analyze impacts on jobs, prices, and county finances. Supporters and opponents are already battling over how the phased-in raises would affect workers and local businesses.
5. Dublin's Kataria named county youth poet laureate (pleasantonweekly.com) — Young poets from across Alameda County, including finalists from Fremont, just saw Dublin teen Krishita Kataria named county youth poet laureate and Tatiana Hernandez selected as vice laureate. They'll represent the county through August 2027 by performing at community events, leading workshops, and giving local teens more chances to share their voices—including those from Alameda.
