Police Find Weapons During East Bay Smoke Shop Inspection

OAKLAND, CA — Oakland police seized illegal tobacco products, weapons, and drug paraphernalia during inspections of two smoke shops on Wednesday, authorities said.

The Oakland Police Department's Alcoholic Beverage Action Team inspected one shop in the 3800 block of San Leandro Street, where officers recovered flavored tobacco, untaxed cigarettes, narcotics paraphernalia, a small amount of narcotics, and a firearm disguised as a cell phone, according to the police.

During a second inspection in the 2100 block of International Boulevard, officers found flavored tobacco, untaxed cigarettes, narcotics paraphernalia, and a privately made illegal AR-style assault weapon, police said.

No arrests were made in either case.

Police said both investigations were forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, and the Oakland City Attorney's Office will review any potential civil or legal follow-up.
