Police Recover Thousands Stolen From ATM Technician Car In Alameda

ALAMEDA, CA — A suspect who police say stole an ATM technician's car in Alameda, taking thousands of dollars inside with them, has been arrested, according to authorities.

Police did not identify the suspect, but said they're suspected of stealing an ATM replenishment car around 5:45 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Park Street.

Investigators quickly identified the suspect, according to the Alameda Police Department, and notified neighboring agencies of the incident.

With the help of Automated License Plate Readers, investigators tracked down the suspect and took him into custody on suspicion of vehicle burglary and narcotics, police said.

During the arrest, police say they found $15,000 in cash that had been taken during the vehicle burglary. The case has been turned over to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, which will weigh whether to charge the suspect.

"This incident is an important reminder to stay aware of your surroundings and to never leave valuables unattended in your vehicle, even for a few moments," police said in a statement on Tuesday. "If you suspect you are being followed, do not drive home or to your destination. Instead, drive to a well-lit, populated location or to the nearest police station. While en route, call 9-1-1 to advise dispatchers of the situation."
