Residents Urged to Lock Windows, Doors In Wake of Alleged Morning Burglaries, Sexual Assault

Report any suspicious activity or report additional information to the Alameda Police Department at (510) 337-8340.

Police are seeking the public’s help to find a suspect in connection with several burglaries that have occurred in Alameda since June, as well as a sexual assault on a juvenile that happened on Saturday. Six burglaries have occurred in the city’s west end in less than two months during the late night or early morning hours, with the first incident having been reported on June 16, police said.

On Saturday police received a call from a parent saying that her daughter had been sexually assaulted as she slept in her room, according to police. The suspect gained entry into the bedroom by cutting the screen of an open window, police said. Detectives are investigating all available video and have deployed increased uniformed and plain clothed police patrol in the area, police said.

In all of the cases, the suspect gained entry to home while people were inside, according to police. Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned male, 18 years old or older, weighing 150 pounds and with a haircut that is curly on top and short on the sides.
