Speed Racing Curbed In Alameda, Police Say
The Alameda Police Department says it has successfully stepped up enforcement against illegal speed racing at the Alameda Point.
ALAMEDA, CA — The Alameda Police Department said that it has managed to curb Alameda Point road racing through increased patrols and investigations.
The APD said it throughout last year, it received reports of racing and unsafe driving at the Alameda Point. APD said that as a result, it collaborated with nearby agencies to add patrols to the area, spoke to event organizers, and opened investigations into unsafe driving.
APD says it was able to identify several drivers. Multiple court orders were issued to remove the vehicles from the roadway, and several cars were towed. Drivers were charged with towing and storage fees, and some risked license suspensions, fines, and/or jail time, the department said.

APD says that despite some municipal steps to prevent road racing in the area, it is seeing an uptick in unsafe driving, especially as warmer weather creeps in. Over the weekend, the department said it cited one reckless driver and seized their vehicle. The department will continue its increased patrol of the area.
