Construction Builds in East Bay, Spurring Job Growth
More than 20,000 jobs have been added in construction in the East Bay since last year.

EAST BAY, CA —The number of jobs available in the East Bay last month increased compared with March and a year ago, officials with the California Employment Development Department said Friday.
Last month the number of East Bay jobs increased by 1,400 compared with March of this year and 20,200 compared with April of last year to reach 1,152,800.
The unemployment rate dropped to 3.5 percent last month from 3.9 percent in March and 4.3 percent a year ago.

Of any industry, the construction industry added the most jobs. Between March and April the number of jobs available in construction increased by 2,500, which is four times the usual increase during the month-long period, according to employment officials.
Between April 2016 and April 2017, the construction industry added 4,800 jobs.
