Planning an Anaheim Lab Move or Renovation? Decide Where the –80°C Samples Go First

When an Anaheim research lab renovates, relocates, or replaces aging freezers, the equipment schedule gets most of the attention. The harder question is often where the samples at −80°C go while the work is underway. Without a plan, teams can end up relying on dry ice and coolers.
Ultracold Storage Solutions, an Anaheim company that sells, installs, and services ultra-low temperature freezers, suggests settling a few questions before any freezer is unplugged:
- How much material needs to stay at −80°C, and for how long?
- Does the new space have the circuits, clearance, and HVAC capacity for the units planned?
- Who receives alarms during the move, and how will temperature records be kept?
- Is the need temporary, or does the lab need more permanent capacity?
A lab with space, power, and HVAC may be better served by installing a new freezer before the move. A lab with no room or a short-term need may be better served by off-site capacity.
For transport, Ultracold supplies a portable −80°C Mini ULT that runs on 24V DC vehicle power without dry ice. For temporary storage, its monitored cold storage facility in Orange County is scheduled to open in October 2026 and is taking reservations for overflow, lab moves, and contingency storage.
