Beverly Hills Citywide Curfew Ordered Sunday
The downtown business district was closed first and the rest of the city shut down shortly thereafter.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — The city of Beverly Hills imposed Sunday two citywide curfews.
The first took place in the Business District — which encompasses the Business Triangle, South Beverly Drive, Robertson Boulevard, and La Cienega Boulevard — Sunday from 1 p.m. until Monday at 5:30 a.m.
The second is citywide and was slated to last from Sunday at 4 p.m. until Monday at 5:30 a.m. According to a city news release, the Beverly Hills Police Department was fully staffed and was actively patrolling the city, including residential neighborhoods. The department is collaborating with the National Guard and other law enforcement partners for backup.

The second two curfews come after more than 2,000 protesters marched through the city on Saturday in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Rioters attacked police cars, looted the Alexander McQueen store on Rodeo Drive, and vandalized businesses throughout the Business District, and police fired tear gas into a crowd of 2-300 protesters at around 8 p.m., after the gathering was declared an illegal assembly. Protests and riots all over Los Angeles resulted in citywide curfews on Saturday and Sunday nights.

The curfew prohibits anyone from being on public streets, alleys, parks, or any public place, according to the news release.
“Violence, looting, and vandalism will not be tolerated in our city,” said Mayor Lester Friedman. “It’s unfortunate that the message of the peaceful protesters has been diminished by criminal behavior. We must take these proactive measures to protect our residents, first responders and visitors while providing hope to our businesses as they work to recover. We encourage all of our residents to remain at home.”
