Libraries Close In Santa Clara County: Coronavirus Woes
Eight branches, along with the bookmobile, operated by the Santa Clara County Library District, shut down at 3 p.m. March 14.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Santa Clara County Library District announced today that its eight branches are closed and bookmobile services canceled as of this afternoon, due to concern over possible spread of the new coronavirus.
"Closing public libraries is an extraordinary measure and a decision that is not taken lightly," acting county librarian Jennifer Weeks said. "The decision to close is driven by our first priority—protecting the public and our staff’s health and safety."
The branch closures went into effect at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Milpitas, Morgan Hills and Saratoga, in keeping with Santa Clara County Public Health Department guidelines for social distancing and banning public gatherings, staff said.

Reopening is tentatively planned April 13, after spring break, according to officials. No late fees will apply during the closure, so patrons can return loaned materials when libraries reopen.
Online services, available 24-7, will continue during the shut-down, so locals can access eBooks, audiobooks, streaming music, TV and videos, research, articles, eMagazines and news, according to officials. Visit the SCCLD website here for more information on online services.
