Police Arrest Suspect Who Threatened Man With Machete In Watsonville

Struggle started with an attempted car break-in, officials said. It is area's machete incident No. 2 in recent weeks.

Police arrested a 46-year-old Saturday morning in Watsonville on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making death threats and resisting arrest, police said.

Officers responded at about 8:10 a.m. to Hushbeck and McKenzie avenues on a report of a possible auto theft. Watsonville resident Anthony Urango allegedly attempted to enter a persons’ parked and locked vehicle, according to police.

The victim, who was nearby, confronted Urango and the two allegedly struggled, police said.

Urango allegedly took a swing at the victim with a machete and threatened to kill him, according to police.

Officers detained Urango and booked the suspect into the county jail on the three offenses, police said.
