Legoland California Honors NYC Coronavirus Frontline Heroes

CARLSBAD, CA — Legoland California honored the coronavirus frontline heroes of New York City in a very LEGO way — with LEGO bricks.

A master model builder at the temporarily closed Carlsbad-based theme park designed a special scene in a miniature LEGO version of the Big Apple located in the park's Miniland USA. Model builder Tim Sams constructed the scene filled with LEGO versions of frontline workers, New Yorkers cheering on their hard work and a LEGO "thank you" banner.

Sans previously constructed a 3-foot-long and nearly 3-foot-tall "thank you" sign for the frontline workers of the pandemic.

"The family theme park built for kids continues to share messages of hope and gratitude to hopefully bring some smiles to all the families affected by COVID-19 until they can open once again," Legoland officials said.

A New York City tribute video, along with instructional building videos and activities for children, is available on the resort's website.

In April, Legoland California extended its temporary closure of the theme park, water park and Sea Life Aquarium until further notice due to the statewide shelter-in-place order prompted by the pandemic.
