San Diego County Sheriff's Department: Death Investigation- George Bailey Detention Facility

On October 19, 2021, a fifty-eight-year-old inmate at George Bailey Detention Facility, Richard Frederick Eshbach, was transported to a local area hospital for medical reasons. Unfortunately, his medical condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital this afternoon.

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.  

Eshbach was a resident of Oceanside. His family has been notified of his death.

Eshbach was arrested by the Oceanside Police Department on September 17, 2021, and was booked into Sheriff's custody for the following charges:

646.9(b) PC – Stalking

273.6(a) PC – Violation of Domestic Violence Court Order

166(c)(1) PC – Violation of a Court Order

The Medical Examiner's Office has scheduled an autopsy for tomorrow.
