Man Accused Of Stealing Packages Arrested In Dublin: Cops

Police praised community members for helping with the arrest.

DUBLIN, CA — Police on Monday arrested a man suspected of stealing packages off of Dublin porches. Coty McDowell, 27, is accused of taking deliveries from numerous front porches in town. Police said they recovered the stolen property.

The arrest comes a day after police arrested two Hayward residents for allegedly stealing a package off of a porch in Pleasanton.

Police in Pleasanton this week offered tips to help keep package deliveries safe:

  • Track your package (many places allow you to sign up for alerts), note the anticipated delivery date and ask a trusted neighbor to pick it up.
  • Consider using an Amazon Locker if you are an Amazon shopper. There are several locations in town.
  • If possible, have packages delivered to work.
  • Install security devices in your front porch area or wherever you accept deliveries. This can be theft deterrent boxes to place/lock deliveries in or cameras that capture activity.
