Scott O'Neill, 25, was taken into custody after he allegedly fled the scene of a collision reported at 1:44 a.m. Friday.

Police arrested a Fremont man Tuesday on suspicion of attempted homicide, domestic violence and violating a restraining order after he allegedly caused a vehicle collision on purpose in Newark last Friday. Scott O’Neill, 25, was taken into custody after he allegedly fled the scene of a collision reported at 1:44 a.m. Friday near the corner of Cedar Boulevard and Cedar Court, according to Newark police. Officers arrived to find an overturned vehicle and an investigation later revealed the incident began when O’Neill confronted and harassed a female victim at O’Sullivan’s Sports Bar, located at 5660 Thornton Ave., police said.

During the confrontation, O’Neill pushed and threatened the victim, who was able to escape him when friends came to her aid and drove her away from the scene, police said. O’Neill then got in his own vehicle and proceeded to follow the victim, who was in her friend’s vehicle, according to police. O’Neill allegedly intentionally struck the vehicle the woman was inside, causing it to overturn.

During the collision, O’Neill also lost control and crashed his vehicle, police said. After the collision, O’Neill confronted the victim in the overturned vehicle once more, but she was able to resist him as bystanders arrived to assist, according to police. O’Neill fled the scene of the collision before officers arrived, according to police.
