Luck appears to have changed for one East Bay kitty who seems to have gotten himself into an unfortunate spot. A Good Samaritan brought the cat he found stuck in a rusty wheel to the Hayward Police Department on Monday. Bay Area photo journalist Randee Deason snapped a photo of the cat and posted it on Twitter.

Deason tweeted, “A guy just pulled up to our news van here at Hayward Police Department, says he found this cat stuck in a wheel.”

Deason said the man was instructed to take the cat to the Hayward Animal Control.

Hayward Animal Shelter spokesperson Jennie Comstock told Patch their veterinarian was able to free the cat’s head from the wheel.

“We did have to sedate him and after some trying and creative thinking, we were able to get him free,” Comstock said. “He was pretty fractious. It was very fortunate the Good Samaritan found him.”

The cat is recovering at the shelter and officials will monitor him for the next few days.

According to Comstock, the cat was found after the Good Samaritan heard some rustling in the bushes on A Street and Hesperian Blvd. near the Hayward Home Depot. When he looked into the bushes, he found the distraught feline.

Comstock says shelter officials are not sure how long the cat may have been stuck in the wheel.
