Morgan Hill School Lockdown Lifted After Police Examine Suspected Explosive

The incident began when officers stopped and arrested a motorcyclist near a school.

A school in Morgan Hill was locked down for more than two hours today after police found what was thought to have been an explosive along with three firearms in the backpack of a motorcyclist, police said.

At about 9 a.m., police pulled over a motorcyclist during an enforcement stop on Monterey Road near John Wilson Way close to Oakwood School, a private K-12 school, according to officers.

The motorcyclist, who is not yet being identified, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, police said.

While searching the suspect’s backpack, officers recovered three firearms and an item they thought might be an explosive, according to police.

Officers then ordered students and staff at Oakwood, located at 105 John Wilson Way, to stay inside school buildings.

After examining the item, police determined that it was harmless and lifted the lockdown at 11:25 a.m.

Police then announced on Twitter that parents could go to a staging area set up at Uesugi Farms Pumpkin Park at 14485 Monterey Road, about a mile southwest of Oakwood, to pick up their children.
