Did You Witness The Wrong-Way Grand Cherokee Driver On Hwy 101? Call Police

The suspect is identified, but claims to not recall the alleged hit-and-run incident on Monday night.

The California Highway Patrol has identified a Santa Rosa woman who is suspected of sideswiping two vehicles when she drove south on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Windsor Monday.

CHP Officer Jon Sloat said the woman admitted she was drinking but doesn’t remember anything.

“She said she was in a fight with someone and the next thing she knew, she woke up the next morning,” Sloat said.

The woman faces at least hit-and-run charges if a witness to the incident can identify her in a photo lineup, Sloat said.

The CHP responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. about a collision caused by a female driver recklessly driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee north on Highway 101 in central Windsor.

Witnesses said the woman was flashing gang signs and driving so recklessly they were afraid to pass, Sloat said.

The driver accelerated to more than 80 mph, lost control of the Jeep near Arata Lane and crashed into the center divider, Sloat said.

The driver turned the Jeep around and drove south in the northbound lane, sideswiping a northbound Chevrolet Malibu and a BMW sedan but causing no injuries to the drivers, Sloat said.

The Jeep, which was registered out of Cobb in Lake County, crashed into a fence about 300 yards further south.

The female driver got out of the car, hopped a fence and fled on Los Amigos Road, Sloat said. Windsor police and the CHP searched the area but did not locate the driver who was described as a Hispanic female, 20-30 years old, wearing all black clothing.

Sloat said the suspect, who was questioned but not arrested, fits that description.
