📰 News we're reading

1. Storied Healdsburg Property Clears Live-Work Design Hurdle (patch.com) — A long-vacant former blacksmith and muffler shop at 444 Healdsburg Avenue is set for a major transformation into a live-work space after winning Healdsburg Planning Commission design approval. Owners Erin and Ken Werner plan to preserve the building's rustic industrial character while adding a second-story bedroom suite, sustainable upgrades, and a public garden with art installations that will enhance the downtown streetscape.

2. Where Healdsburg Finds A Map For End-Of-Life Journeys (patch.com) — Healdsburg's new "When the Time Comes" program is offering residents workshops, conversation circles, and one-on-one help with end-of-life planning and grief support through the Senior Center's Compassion Corner. Launched as a city pilot in late 2025, it's already drawing strong turnout for monthly "death curious" info sessions, community circles, and upcoming fall workshops on hospice, body disposition options, and family conversations.

3. Flashbacks for August 30, 2026 (healdsburgtribune.com) — Healdsburg's past comes alive with a 1901 visit from California Volunteers camping at Luce's Park, a 1951 fight over beer sales at Rec Park, and 1976 wine wins for local vineyards. The piece closes by inviting you to explore more at the Healdsburg Museum on Matheson Street.

4. Prep roundup: Sonoma Valley flag football wins again; Carrillo, Montgomery, Rancho among volleyball winners (pressdemocrat.com) — Healdsburg High athletes had a strong start to the fall season, with junior Lucas Welty winning the boys' race at the Bob Shorr Invitational and the cross country team unofficially topping the field. Fellow junior Domenico Cornilsen also placed in the top five, and Healdsburg volleyball swept St. Helena 3–0 as part of a busy slate of Sonoma County prep results.
