Family Cat, Fish Saved From East Hollywood Apartment Fire

Firefighters dispatched at 6:18 a.m. to the 800 block of North Vermont Avenue had the fire out within 19 minutes.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Fire damaged one unit on the fourth floor of a four-story apartment building Saturday in East Hollywood, where firefighters at the scene rescued a family cat and fish from the involved unit.

Firefighters dispatched at 6:18 a.m. to the 800 block of North Vermont Avenue had the fire out within 19 minutes of their arrival, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Four adults and two children were displaced as result of the fire, Stewart said.

"No one was home at the time of the fire. There were no smoke alarms in the unit," she said. "Building occupants were notified of the fire by a central alarm system. There was no sprinkler activation."

No injuries were reported and a cause of the fire was under investigation.
