LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Lake Elsinore police will staff a DUI/driver's license checkpoint this weekend, officials announced Wednesday. The operation is set to begin around 8 p.m. Friday and last through 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
The exact location of the checkpoint was not disclosed, but officials said it will be within the city limits of Lake Elsinore.
"The deterrent effect of High Visibility Enforcement using both DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols has proven to lower the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug impaired crashes," police said in a news release. "Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely."
