John Marchand Announces Run For Livermore Mayor
Marchand, who was mayor from 2011-2020, announced his candidacy Monday.

LIVERMORE, CA — John Marchand, who served as mayor of Livermore from 2011 to 2020, announced Monday that he is running again for his old job. Since current Mayor Bob Woerner is not running for reelection, his only challenger is realtor and former Livermore Police Officer Mony Nop. Since no incumbent is running for mayor, the deadline to file has been extended to Wednesday afternoon.
“I’m running for Mayor because serving the community of Livermore is one of the most important endeavors in my daily life. I’m humbled, honored and grateful for the many requests from residents to step up and lead Livermore again,” Marchand said in a statement.
Marchand listed his top priorities as public safety, quality of life, housing security and downtown improvement.

Marchand said that he wants to dedicate over 50 percent of the city’s General Fund to public safety, and sustaining both the Drug-House Nuisance Abatement Ordinance and the Crime-Free Multi-Unit Housing Ordinance.
Marchand said that he is “committed to supporting our residents who lack reliable housing and shelter by finding workable solutions.” During his tenure as mayor, he helped facilitate the development of Vineyard 2.0, which provides shelter, food and counseling, and Goodness Village, a tiny home development. He also helped convene the first regional Mayors Summit on Homelessness.

Marchand said that he supports the controversial Eden Housing development downtown, which was approved by the council in May but has been challenged with a number of lawsuits. “This well designed plan will build much needed workforce housing for our community. Affordable housing funds were used to purchase the downtown site, and State law requires that affordable housing be included here, in our downtown,” he said. “The City created the approved plan based upon significant public input. I’m seeking collaboration and cooperation to start implementing the plan which will allow workers who serve our community, to live in our community.
Marchand can point to a number of accomplishments during his tenure as mayor, including:
- The rebuilding of Fire Station Number 9
- The building of a new emergency operations center
- The completion of the first phase of Stockmen’s Park
- The approval of Livermorium Plaza and Veterans Park
He has been endorsed by a number of local leaders, including the entire current Livermore City Council, outgoing Livermore Mayor Bob Woerner, retired LPFD Fire Chief Ruben Torres, retired LPD Chief Mike Harris, Alameda County Supervisors David Haubert and Nate Miley, Dublin Mayor Melissa Hernandez, and many more.
