LIVERMORE, CA — The city of Livermore will have a new public works director starting July 8. Scott Lanphier has been appointed to the post, Livermore City Manager Marc Roberts announced Thursday. Lanphier has served as the director of public works for Colusa County since 2013, and his new appointment followed a nationwide recruitment effort by the city to fill the position.

Lanphier is replacing Darren Greenwood, who has served as Livermore's public works director for four years and is set to retire at the end of June. Lanphier's annual salary will be $200,000.

Lanphier brings over 27 years of experience in management and infrastructure planning, engineering and maintenance, spanning federal, state, local, and private sectors, according to Roberts. During his Colusa County tenure, Lanphier was responsible for hundreds of miles of roadways, over 100 bridges, two water delivery systems, and solid waste facilities, according to Roberts. He also served as executive director of the Colusa County Transportation Commission, county road commissioner, county floodplain manager, and county engineer.

Lanphier holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado, Denver, and he is a licensed California professional civil engineer and California professional traffic engineer, as well as a certified flood plain manager, according to Roberts. He also served in the United States Marine Corps.

“I am pleased that Mr. Lanphier will be joining the City’s executive team," Roberts said. "His extensive background in public works, coupled with his collaborative management style and ability to build relationships will continue the high quality of service our Public Works Department provides the community.”
