Police Officer Rewards Boy's Touching Christmas Act of Kindness with Bicycle

The sweet moment happened during the annual Shop with a Cop in Livermore, California.

LIVERMORE, CA — A Livermore police officer opened his own wallet to buy a bicycle for an 8-year-old boy who chose to spend money allotted to him for Christmas gifts on items for his siblings as part of the Shop with a Cop program.

The boy was one of 20 local children selected to participate in the popular holiday program created to help make the holidays a bit more bright for children in need. Police said that when the boy started shopping in Walmart he told the officer he wanted to get gifts for his sister and brother.

The officer was so touched by the boy's desire to use the $150 to buy his loved ones gifts that he bought the boy a bike using his own money. Police said the boy was so excited about the new bike that he rode it up and down the aisles of the store.

The event, which was created eight years ago by Patricia Avila and Officer Dan Cabral, is made possible with the help of officers, volunteers and Granada High students.

“Granada High’s band plays for the kids as they arrive in front of Walmart from the VIP police escort,” Sgt. Steve Goard told Patch. “Granada High’s leadership team steps in and teams up with the officers to help the kids shop.”
