Thieves Increasingly Targeting Homes for Sale, Livermore Police Say
Police ask neighbors to be vigilant, document license plates and report any suspicious activity near homes they know are for sale.

LIVERMORE, CA — Police officials are asking for the public’s help to curtail the number of burglaries of unoccupied, staged homes for sale in Livermore. During December, thieves targeted close to 10 of those empty homes on the market, police officials said.
According to police, the suspects appear to make entry into the homes by defeating the lockboxes and using the key. Agents and homeowners later discover the burglaries when they visit the home for showings. Police say burglars are stealing televisions, appliances and some home decor items.
Police ask neighbors to be vigilant, document license plates and report any suspicious activity near homes they know are for sale. They are ask agents and homeowners to eliminate the lockbox and offer showings by appointment only and to keep alarms and cameras activated while the home is on the market. Police also suggested hiring a house sitter.
