But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect cloudy and cool conditions to continue through Tuesday, with a chance of showers beginning Monday and into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Any rain that falls is expected to be light, with the greatest amounts expected in inland San Diego County.
The weather is expected to turn around beginning Wednesday, when a warming and drying trend kicks off and lasts through the weekend. High temperatures are expected to hit 90 degrees in some areas by Friday.
In other news, a massive animal rescue operation continued over the weekend in San Diego County. The operation began at an animal sanctuary on Friday at a judge's order; authorities continued to find additional animals on the sanctuary's 40-acre property as the operation entered its third day on Sunday.
The number of animals seized are in the hundreds and include everything from chickens to horses and alpacas.
"While some animals appear healthy and stable, many were found suffering without adequate care and husbandry," San Diego Humane Society officials said.
Plus, the iconic pier in Redondo Beach was shut down for hours Sunday after a threat of explosives. The threat, which was initially reported as a hostage situation, delayed the opening of the nearby BeachLife Festival, where James Taylor and Sheryl Crow were among the headliners set to perform Sunday.
