Rabid Bats Hit Record High In LA County, Public Health Warns (patch.com) — Los Angeles County health officials are warning residents after rabid bat detections hit a record-tying 69 cases this year, with many found in homes, schools and parks. The Santa Clarita Valley accounts for most cases, and residents across the county are urged to avoid contact with bats, report suspicious animals, and ensure pets' rabies vaccinations are up to date.
   

2. FBI Hunts Leader Of India-Based Gang Tied To Assassination, SoCal Violence: Officials (patch.com) — Federal authorities in Los Angeles are intensifying the hunt for alleged crime boss Satinderjeet "Goldy" Brar, now on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list and tied to violence and drug trafficking in Southern California. Investigators say his India-based network targeted victims in Los Angeles and Thousand Oaks, stole large cocaine shipments in the greater LA area, and remains a major focus of Operation Hardball.
   

3. Animal Rescue Operator Pleads Not Guilty In 300+ Animal Neglect Case (patch.com) — Los Angeles County prosecutors have charged Antelope Valley rescue operator Christine De Anda with dozens of felony and misdemeanor counts after more than 300 animals were seized from her Lake Hughes property in March. County animal care officials say the massive operation strained already crowded Los Angeles-area shelters, prompting emergency transfers of dogs and cats to facilities as far away as Chicago while remaining animals receive intensive treatment locally.
   

4. Measure ULA's Second Round (labusinessjournal.com) — Los Angeles just opened a massive $467 million affordable housing funding round, mostly powered by the city's Measure ULA "mansion tax," with applications for sponsors and projects due in November and December. The program is funding new construction, preserving aging buildings, and stabilizing nonprofit housing portfolios, while city leaders debate whether the tax's costs to development and lost property revenue are worth the benefits.
   

5. 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games projected to generate billions, support thousands of jobs in LA County (kesq.com) — Los Angeles County leaders say the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games could bring billions in spending and more than 88,000 jobs, with major activity expected in downtown Los Angeles and nearby cities. Officials are pushing for strong local hiring and small-business participation so Angelenos share in the benefits. They're also planning transit and public space upgrades ahead of the Games.
