Beach-Loving Families Clean Up Orange County Coast Saturday

Over 200 volunteers will gather on the shores of Huntington Beach for a trash cleanup on Saturday.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — The October oil spill that leaked thousands of gallons of oil into Orange County waters served as a firm reminder for coastal Orange County residents: our marine world is precious. While the oil spill cleanup is almost complete, the litter that winds up on Orange County shores is endless.

On Saturday, Orange County Coastkeeper and California Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) will join forces and host over 200 volunteers for a Huntington Beach trash cleanup, OC Coastkeeper announced Thursday.

After the rainy weather this week, the volunteers are expected to bag over 300 pounds of trash, said a statement released by OC Coastkeeper. Over the past decade, OC Coastkeeper has prevented almost 100,000 pounds of trash from entering Orange County waterways.
