In Los Angeles, a confidential settlement was reached in a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleged her former English teacher at an all-girls school sexually abused and impregnated her. The former student alleges the teacher "systematically lured" her into a year long sexual relationship. But, her case will move forward against another Los Angeles County school where the teacher previously worked, court papers show.

Gov. Jerry Brown Thursday signed "sanctuary state" legislation authored by a Los Angeles lawmaker that limits local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities. This legislation, however, was criticized by Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, who said restrictions may hamper law enforcement efforts.
