DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint Coming Up In Malibu

Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, police said.

MALIBU, CA – There will be a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on June 22 at an undisclosed location in Malibu between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The checkpoint will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Services Detail, in conjunction with Malibu/Lost Hills Station.

"DUI Checkpoints like this one are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence," the LASD press release said. "Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public."

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment; officers will be checking drivers for proper licensing, and delaying motorists only momentarily, the press release said. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, which now accounts for a growing number of impaired driving crashes.
