Body Found Near Stinson Beach Identified As Missing Hiker

BREAKING: Tyler Silva, 21, of Antioch and Manteca, was last seen Dec. 3 on a cliff near Pirate's Cove Trail at Muir Beach in Marin County.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – A body found Sunday in the ocean waters near Stinson Beach has been identified as a hiker reported missing early December near Muir Beach, according to the Marin County coroner's office.

Tyler Anthony Silva, a 21-year-old resident of Antioch and Manteca, had been on a hike Dec. 3 with his girlfriend near Pirate's Cove Trail at Muir Beach when he ventured off trail and became separated from her, according to Dana Polk, spokeswoman for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Crews with the National Park Service, Marin County Fire Department, Marin County Search and Rescue, Marin County Sheriff's Office and Southern Marin Fire Protection District searched roads, trails and the coastline between Muir Beach and Tennessee Valley, a small, undeveloped area near Mill Valley.

The search for Silva was suspended last Tuesday.

Silva's body was found in the ocean Sunday about two miles west of Stinson Beach, according to the coroner's office.

"The Marin County Sheriff's Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Silva," officials said in a statement.

A post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for Tuesday.
