Library's 'Naked Truth' Night Back With Tales of Persistence, Perseverence

Mill Valley, Calif.—Who doesn't love a good story of persistence and perseverance? From the ant and the rubber tree to the little engine that could, there's a whole lot of inspiration to be found in tales with characters that keep just going, despite the odds. On Friday, June 6th, the Mill Valley Public Library will host the latest live installment of its popular Naked Truth storytelling series, during which a storied group of raconteurs will tell their own true tales of pressing on and following through despite all obstacles.

Jaime DeWolf and Doug Cordell, alums of NPR's Snap Judgment show, will join comedian Karinda Dobbins and emcee Josh Healey in telling 10-minute true stories based on the evening's theme, "Come Hell or High Water." In Naked Truth tradition, the featured storytellers must tell their stories without notes, meaning that anything can happen.

“Our next evening of true stories promises to be one of our most exciting,” said Senior Reference Librarian Cara Brancoli. “The audience will hear stories from L. Ron Hubbard’s great grandson, the daughter of Black Panthers, and the grandson of the former head of L.A.’s communist party, among others. Beyond their fascinating backgrounds, the caliber of storytellers is really impressive. ”

Five audience members will also have the opportunity to take part and tell a story of their own. Audience members can submit their names for a chance to participate in a fast-paced lightning round in which they will each tell a one-minute true story of their choosing.

Upcoming storytelling workshops will take place on June 25th and July 8th with the talented Josh Healey, master storyteller and host of the Library's Naked Truth live events.
