Man Identified After Fatal Plunge In Marin County Harbor
Police are investigating the cause of the incident where a 76-year-old died after he was pulled from the submerged vehicle.
SAUSALITO, CA — The Marin County Coroner has identified the man who died Monday after a car drove into the Sausalito Yacht Harbor and submerged.
Brian Thayer Mullins, 76, of Sausalito, was the driver pulled from a white Mercedes-Benz submerged 10 feet underwater.
Crews from the Southern Marin Fire Protection District arrived around 2:38 p.m. One person had managed to escape the car before it sank and was rescued and brought to the dock for evaluation. The driver, Mullins, remained inside and was pulled from the submerged vehicle during a dive operation and rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The survivor was medically evaluated at the scene. At least one firefighter sustained minor injuries during the rescue operation.
An autopsy for Mullins is scheduled for Wednesday, and toxicology tests will be conducted, the coroner’s office said. The specific cause of death has not yet been released.
