Sausalito Police Warn Of Weekend Restrictions Due To Coronavirus
Officers will no longer warn violators and start issuing citations for non-essential travel and social distancing violations, police said.
SAUSALITO, CA — After people violated stay-at-home orders and visited the city of Sausalito last weekend, Sausalito police warned they will be enforcing parking restrictions and issuing citations for non-essential travel and social distancing violations this weekend to encourage people to follow state and local public health orders and stay close to home during the coronavirus pandemic.
The city, a popular destination due to its waterfront views and proximity to the Golden Gate Bridge, last Sunday closed all municipal parking lots for weekends and holidays during the pandemic after what the Sausalito Police Department described as "widespread disregard for non-essential travel restrictions" on Saturday.
"We ask people to please stay at home in their own community unless engaged in allowable essential travel or business," police said.

Electronic signs have been placed at both ends of Bridgeway, the city's main thoroughfare, as well as the frontage road from Highway 101 to Spencer Avenue to alert motorists of the parking restrictions.
Any vehicles found parking in the lots during weekends will be cited. Residents, businesses and their employees can park in street metered spaces and do not have to pay the meters during weekends if they have their parking permit displayed on their rear bumper or a card on the vehicle's dashboard, police said.

In response to vehicles parking illegally in restricted residential areas throughout the city, police will resume regular enforcement for violators in those areas, according to the department.
Officers will no longer warn violators and start issuing citations for non-essential travel and social distancing violations, police said. Violations carry fines of $500.
"Please remember that complying with public health orders can help keep everyone safe," police said.
"We can all do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 by sheltering at home as much as possible and wearing face coverings when we are out in public. Stay close to your own neighborhood for fresh air and sunshine, and only use your car for essential activities, such as grocery shopping."
