Marin County Assistant District Attorney Barry Borden said Gibbs faces between 5 and 14 years in prison when he is sentenced April 28.
Gibbs admitted shooting his brother during an interview, sheriff's Lt. Jamie Scardina said after the slaying.
Gibbs attorney Carl Gonser said there was evidence during the trial that Johnson Gibbs picked up a gun to protect his mother and himself and came down a narrow flight of stairs in the middle of the night. Allison Gibbs came seemingly out of nowhere and attacked Johnson Gibbs and the gun went off accidentally when Johnson Gibbs fell backwards, Gonser said.
