79-Year-Old Man's Suicide Led To Milpitas Street Closure, Evacuation
Police had Spring Valley Lane closed for several hours as the SWAT team tried unsuccessfully to contact the man.

MILPITAS, CA — A Milpitas street was closed for several hours Thursday and neighbors were evacuated because a suicidal man with a gun was inside a home. When police finally entered the home they found a 79-year-old man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident began at 12:48 p.m. when a caller told Milpitas Police that the man had made suicidal threats. Officers established a perimeter around the home in the 200 block of Spring Valley Lane and evacuated nearby neighbors. Milpitas Police Negotiators and the SWAT Team responded and tried to establish communications with the male.
According to Lt. Raj Maharaj, "After 5 hours and several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with the male, Milpitas SWAT members made entry and located the male deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Santa Clara County Coroner was contacted and the identity of the male will not be released until next of kin has been contacted."
