Driver Critically Injured When Car Crashes Into Tree In Mtn. View

Witnesses sought for the Tuesday a.m. accident on Central Expressway.

A man suffered critical injuries when his car struck a tree in Mountain View early this morning, a police spokeswoman said.

Around 6:30 a.m., officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a crash on Central Expressway between Bernardo and Mary avenues, police spokeswoman Shino Tanaka said.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated a man from a black 2008 Mazda 6, Tanaka said. He was transported to a hospital and is in critical condition, she said.

No one else was inside the car.

The man struck a tree in the center median, which left a large amount of debris on the roadway, Tanaka said.

The roadway was closed in both directions and opened around 1:30 p.m., Tanaka said.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call Mountain View police Officer Lloyd Curns at (650) 903-6762 and refer to case number 15-4718.
