42nd Annual Father’s Day Car Show Set for Sunday

Held at California Oaks Sports Park, the event draws a large crowd every year.

This Sunday, thousands of car enthusiasts are expected to head out to the city’s annual Father’s Day Car Show.

The 42nd annual event will run from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at California Oaks Sports Park.

“We’ve been doing it for a long time,” said Laura Frasso, special events coordinator with the city of Murrieta. “The Temecula Valley Car Club started the event, and we’ve since taken it over.”

The event is always held on Father’s Day, with a good turnout.

“We get between 300 and 350 classic and specialty vehicles,” Frasso said. “It’s a nice setting. It’s different from a lot of car shows because they get to park on the grass. At a lot of other shows, it’s on blacktop, and it gets hot.”

According to Frasso, the car show, which also features food and car-related vendors, is “definitely for all ages.”

“It’s just a good opportunity to spend time as a family,” she said. “A lot of people come with their dads, since it’s Father’s Day. It’s a wide variety of ages; we get some grandpas, and babies and kids.”

Participants come from as close as Temecula, Fallbrook, and Escondido, and as far away as Arizona and Las Vegas.

“We definitely get people from out of town,” Frasso said. “It may be that they have family here, and want to spend time with dad. We welcome anyone from all over to check our car show out, as we sure are proud of it.”

Over 40 awards will be handed out, and this year, organizers are trying something new.

“We’re doing what’s called Dad’s Top 25,” Frasso said. “The 25 top cars in the show will get one of these awards. We’ll still do Mayor’s Choice, and Mayor [Doug] McAllister will be there to pick his favorite car.”

There’s an added bonus for the winner of Best in Show.

“That one gets to be on all of the promotional material the following year, and their car is on the t-shirt,” Frasso said. “It’s very fun for them.”

For those who sign up by June 15, registration is $25, and includes a t-shirt. Registration on the day of the show is $30, without a t-shirt. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event. For more information, click here.

Dogs are not permitted at the car show.
