RivCo Firefighters Airlift Injured Hikers In Two Separate Incidents

Two sets of injured hikers were airlifted from RivCo remote hiking trails after suffering traumatic falls at Tenaja Falls & Gilman Springs.

LA CRESTA, CA— Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department medics rescued two separate sets of hikers within an hour of each other Tuesday from the mountain trails of Riverside County.

Helicopters were called in to assist firefighters in both remote, inaccessible rescues, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Maggie Cline De La Rosa.

Shortly after 11 a.m., firefighters were first called to Gilman Springs' Massacre Canyon. There, two hikers had both suffered traumatic injuries after a fall, she said.

Both of the injured patients had fallen roughly 50 or 60 feet below a trail, according to Cline-Del La Rosa.

"They were hoisted by helicopter from the ravine and taken by ambulance to a nearby San. Jacinto-area hospital for treatment."

In a separate incident, not quite 30 minutes later, firefighters airlifted another injured hiker from the inaccessible hiking trail near Tenaja Falls, according to Cline De-La Rosa.

The man had "fallen in a remote area inaccessible to vehicles, near Tenaja Truck Trail and Los Alamos Truck Trail, while hiking near the Tenaja Falls," Cline De La Rosa said.

A Riverside County Sheriff helicopter aided in the rescue, hoisting the patient out of the area. He was transported to a nearby hospital by a waiting ground ambulance and had suffered "moderate traumatic injuries," she said.
