Rock Fire: 90% Contained, Evacs Lifted In Fire Near Fallbrook

The Rock Fire near Fallbrook burned 207 acres, fire officials said.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – Crews have almost fully contained a blaze that broke out over the weekend near Fallbrook, Cal Fire announced Monday. The fire, dubbed the Rock Fire, scorched 207 acres and was 90 percent contained by Monday evening, fire officials said.

Reports of the fire first came at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol. The blaze sparked for unknown reasons along Rock Mountain Drive near Sandia Creek Drive, just south of the Riverside County line.

All evacuation orders were lifted Sunday, according to Cal Fire.

Authorities in Riverside County said they did not believe the fire had spread into their jurisdiction, although smoke inundated much of the Temecula Valley.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in the fire, officials said. Crews were expected to remain at the scene overnight Monday to patrol the area and mop up hot spots.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
