There was lots of fun in the daytime sun and on into the night at Napa’s “Lights The Valley 4th of July” celebration in downtown Napa, marking the 239th birthday of America.

There were bands, ceremonies at Veteran’s Park, with the Napa River as the backdrop, and a games area on First Street was packed kids and families. One popular attraction for children were clear giant beach balls where the kids bounced and rolled “hamster-style” in a pool.

There were numerous food choices from restaurants along Main Street, plus vendors. Judging by the lines, a popular food truck choice was Cousins Maine Lobster of Napa.

Thousands descended to the downtown area by boat, cars, bikes and even on foot to celebrate the publication of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Rob and Janet Washer of Napa, for the third year in a row, brought their yacht up the Napa river to celebrate with friends, and tied up at the downtown boat dock, along with a flotilla of other craft, for one of the best views for the fireworks.

The Travis Color Guard presented the colors during the ceremonies. And Brad Wagenknecht of Napa, dressed as Uncle Sam, got several kids in the audience to help spread out a large American flag without letting it touch the ground.
