Progress! 7 Days In: Clayton Fire Containment At 65%
Close to 200 homes destroyed, to date, in the blaze in the North Bay area.

LAKE COUNTY, CA – The Clayton Fire, burning since Saturday in the North Bay's Lake County, has reached 65 percent containment as of today, according to Cal Fire.
On Thursday, containment for the blaze, suspected to be arson-related, stood at 55 percent.
Total destroyed acres number 3929, with 300 structures destroyed and another 300 threatened as of this afternoon, the agency said.

"Firefighters continue to improve and hold existing lines while mopping up hot spots across the fire area," the agency said. "Fire suppression repair has begun in an effort to minimize the effects of the fires damage."
Inspectors are surveying the region for burned houses and buildings.

"Current data indicates that the fire has destroyed 300 structures; including 190 single-family homes, eight commercial structures, and 102 other structures such as sheds and smaller outbuildings," Cal Fire said. "As surveys are completed and additional data is confirmed, the number of structures damaged or destroyed may rise."
The cause of the Clayton blaze now is officially listed as "arson," as a Clearlake man was arrested Monday for suspicion of arson for the fire and other blazes in the area.
Crews at the fire scene today total 1,742, according to Cal Fire.

The Clayton Fire broke out Saturday evening near Highway 29 and Clayton Creek, south of Lower Lake.
