Coroner IDs Teen Killed in Novato Double Shooting

Officials have identified the 17-year-old boy. Two of his suspected killers are behind bars, but a third is still sought.

NOVATO, CA- The Marin County Sheriff's Office has publicly identified a boy who was shot to death in Novato this week as a 17-year-old from San Rafael.

The agency says Edwin Josue Ramirez Guerra, a student at Novato High School, died Wednesday night at the Ignacio Valley Open Space Preserve.

"Forensic tests including toxicology [are] scheduled for early next week to determine cause and manner of death," the Marin County Sheriff's Office tweeted Friday evening.

Sheriff's officials have said they believe Guerra and another boy, who has not been identified, were in the open space area when they were assaulted around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The sheriff's office and Novato Police Department were called shortly thereafter and responded to the end of Fairway Drive where the located the boy that survived.

That victim had also been stabbed and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Guerra was later located nearby and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

The violent incident sparked a massive police response to the area beginning Wednesday night. Authorities worked through the night, and by Thursday afternoon, two suspects had been arrested in connection to the case, police said.

Sheriff's officials aren't yet releasing the names of the suspects involved, and they were described only as three Hispanic males.

Now, police say they are focused on arresting the third suspect in the case and said Friday on twitter that there has been "...no loss of momentum in Novato homicide investigation."
