OC Pays $480K To Inmate Who Miscarried On The Way To Hospital: Report
The former inmate suffered a miscarriage after deputies stopped at a Starbucks while driving her to a hospital.
ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Orange County will pay $480,000 to a former inmate who was pregnant and suffered a miscarriage after sheriff's deputies stopped at a Starbucks while driving her to the hospital, the Orange County Register reported.
Orange County supervisors unanimously agreed to the payment at their Tuesday meeting. The payment is pending, as the former inmate must formally accept the settlement before it becomes final.
Sandra Quinones said in a federal lawsuit that after her water broke in the jail, Orange County sheriff deputies delayed treatment for hours, the report said. Quinones is no longer in custody and, according to her lawyer, is homeless and mentally ill.

According to the report, on March 28 2016, Quinones was in her cell and her water broke. She was six months pregnant. She pushed the call button to alert a jailer, but no one came for two hours, the report said.
When someone did come, the suit alleged, Quinones was put into a patrol car instead of an ambulance, and deputies made a pit stop at a Starbucks before taking Quinones to the Globe Medical Center in Anaheim.
