Petaluma Health Center to Provide Free Dental Care for Kids

Mark your calendar for the date in February.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. If you are a parent, you may have questions about your child’s first dental visit or how and when to clean your child’s teeth.

If so, you are encouraged to make an appointment to attend a free program for children 0-18 to be held on Friday, February 6 from 8:00am to 12:30pm at Petaluma Health Center. To register for the program, call (707) 559-7550.

During the program, parents will learn about dental sealants, ways to prevent early childhood cavities, when to expect changes from primary to permanent teeth, proper brushing and flossing techniques, thumbsucking, and more. Parents will also learn about the importance of regular dental examinations.

“We look forward to this day every year. With proper care and regular dental visits, a child’s teeth will remain healthy and strong, contributing to better health overall,” said Dr. Ramona English, Dental Director at Petaluma Health Center. Give Kids a Smile is sponsored by the American Dental Association and organized locally by Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County.

Petaluma Health Center is also serving students at McDowell Elementary, McKinley Elementary, and San Antonio High School through the Sealants Saves Smiles program. Children who are eligible will receive screenings and sealants.

Focused on preventive care, the Sealants Save Smiles program supports the reduction of absenteeism due to dental problems will a goal to improve health for children. On average a child will miss 2-3 days of school each year due to dental pain.
