Two Busts For Allegedly Transporting Pot Through Sonoma County

In both cases, the arresting officer could smell the marijuana, CHP said.

The California Highway on Monday arrested two people in connection with transporting marijuana in Sonoma County during separate traffic stops.

The first incident occurred at 3:55 p.m. near Rohnert Park, where an officer conducted a traffic stop on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Todd Road.

The officer was on patrol when he pulled over a Nissan for a carpool lane violation. The officer said he smelled marijuana inside the Nissan and located six pounds of marijuana, $7,000 in cash and several cell phones inside the vehicle, according to the CHP.

The driver, identified as Henok Andie, 29, of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of transporting marijuana for sale.

The second arrest occurred at 4 p.m. on southbound 101 near Cloverdale. In that arrest, a CHP officer pulled over a Ford Festiva for speeding and said he smelled marijuana inside the vehicle during the traffic stop.

The officer located about 17 pounds of processed marijuana in the vehicle during an ensuing search, according to the CHP.

The driver, identified as Michael Emery, 24, of Covelo, was arrested on suspicion of possession and transportation of marijuana for sale.
