$1,800 Baby Formula Theft Leads To Heroin Bust, Pleasanton Police Say

"Baby formula is commonly stolen both because of its retail value and its ability to be used as a cutting agent by narcotic dealers."

PLEASANTON, CA — Two Oakland men were arrested after they allegedly tried to steal $1,800 worth of baby formula from a Pleasanton Safeway Tuesday evening. According to police, two undercover police officers watched the suspects, later identified as Sean Ward, 29, and David Brown, 35, both of Oakland, as they fled the grocery store on Santa Rita Road just before 6 p.m.

The officers detained the duo and allegedly recovered the baby formula, along with heroin packaged for sales and other items indicative of narcotics sales. Brown had two warrants for drug sales offenses.

“Baby formula is commonly stolen both because of its retail value and its ability to be used as a cutting agent by narcotic dealers,” police said.
